***During the football season we will be posting Q&A every couple of weeks.

Phil,

Thanks for writing the best darn football preview book on the market today. BY FAR.

I have a question about your statement on the Tennessee 2006 season on page 323. You say “In the LSU game, on a play on the last drive QB Russell was ruled down but the SEC confirmed that he had fumbled and UT recovered so the Vols would have won.” I agree 100% with this statement, but I have been questioned on the SEC confirming the fumble. I didn’t see this in the media. Is there any place I can look this up to convince the doubters.

Bobby,

The article that stated that the SEC agreed with Phil Fulmer that Russell actually did fumble instead of the play being whistled dead appeared in The Tennessean on December 18, 2006. I have the exact quote from that newspaper as follows...

Coach Phillip Fulmer is still steaming over the fumble by LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell that wasn’t called a fumble. Russell was stripped on the fourth play of the Tigers’ game-winning drive, and Turk McBride came away with the ball.

The officials said they had blown the play dead. None of the Vols said they heard a whistle, and the conference office later notified Tennessee that it should have been ruled a fumble.

“That’s not good enough,” Fulmer would later say.

Top Offense in the Pac-10 by almost 100 yards per game and you couldn’t find even out U of O offensive lineman worthy of at least your Mid-season All Pac-10 3rd team?

C’mon! Wake up and watch some football!!

Sincerely Seth Light

We had 9 Oregon Players on our 3-team Pac-10 Midseason team including 6 players on the 1st team. Center Max Unger would have been a solid pick. However this is his 1st season at the position after playing RT the past 2 years and he is behind Alex Mack (1st Tm P-10 LY, Lombardi, Rimington and Outland Watch), Mike Pollack (2nd Tm P-10 LY, Outland and Rimington Watch) and Kyle DeVan (2nd Tm P-10 LY), all of who are deserving as well at the center position.

Thanks for writing!
