As a member of the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award® (The O’Brien) Selection Committee, the Davey O’Brien Foundation would like to ensure that you cast your vote for a quarterback who embodies the spirit of Davey O’Brien and his legacy. When voting, please evaluate each candidate on the criteria of his quarterback skills and athletic ability, academics, his reputation as a team player, character, leadership and sportsmanship. The Watch List is based on All-America teams and Honorable Mentions published in at least six different preseason college football publications. A candidate must be listed as an All-America quarterback or as a 1st or 2nd team All-American within his conference in at least one publication, or as Honorable Mention in at least three publications. | ||||||||||||
The semifinalist ballot is comprised of the watch list. The Selection Committee will be asked to select their top 10 - 12 choices. Voters can write-in a maximum of two candidates; however write-in candidates will only be added to the semifinalist list if 10% of the Selection Committee writes-in the same candidate. This is the only point of the voting procedure when write-ins will be accepted. The ballot will be issued the week of Oct. 22, ballots are due Oct. 28 and finalists will be announced Oct. 29. The finalist ballot is comprised of the semifinalist list. The Selection Committee will be asked to select their top three choices. The ballot will be issued the week of Nov. 12 and ballots are due Nov. 18. The three candidates with the most votes will be submitted to the Davey O’Brien Executive Committee for approval and finalists will be announced Nov. 19. The winner ballot is comprised of the three finalists. The Selection Committee will be asked to rank the three finalists. The ballot will be issued the week of Nov. 26 and ballots will be due Dec. 2. The 2007 O’Brien winner will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN December 6. Participation in all three votes is crucial, and all voting is kept confidential. All members of the Selection Committee will have five days to complete their ballot for each phase of the voting procedure. The Foundation strongly encourages the Selection Committee not to cast their votes until after that week’s games to include the candidate’s most recent performance. Voting will take place online, or via fax or phone, if needed. | ||||||||||||
