Head Coach - Ken Whisenhunt, 5th year
Whisenhunt was a 9 year TE/HB from 1985-‘93 for ATL, WAS, and the NYJ. He worked as a TE/STC coach for BAL, CLE, NYJ and PIT from 1997-‘03. In 2004 he was promoted to OC for PIT and in his 3 years they ranked 16th, tied for 15th and 7th in offense. He is the only ARZ HC to have a .500 record or better in his first 3 yrs and received a 3 yr extension prior to 2010.
Asst HC/Offensive Line - Russ Grimm, 5th year
Grimm was elected to the Pro Football HOF in 2010 for an 11 year career (1981-’91) as an OG for WAS. He served as the WAS TE coach from 1992-’96 before being moved to OL coach for 1997-2000. He then coached PIT’s OL from 2000-’06 before joining ARZ in 2007. ARZ has allowed 28 or less sacks in 3 of 4 years with LY’s 50 being the most since 1998’s 50.
Offensive Coordinator - Mike Miller, 5th year
Whisenhunt consolidated the run/pass game duties to OC for 2011. Miller was the passing game coordinator for 2009-’10 after being the WR’s coach from 2007-’08 when the team had twenty 100 yd receiving efforts combined.
Quarterbacks - Chris Miller, 3rd year
Miller was a 1st RD DC for ATL in 1987. He played for ATL (1987-‘93), STL (1994-‘95), and DEN (1999). Miller was an ARZ coaching intern for the 2007 training camp and joined the team as its QB coach for 2009. ARZ has posted 5 total 300 yd passing games in his tenure finishing 12th and 31st in pass offense.
Running Backs - Tommie Robinson, 2nd year
Robinson was the Miami, Fl RB’s coach from 2007-‘09 with the Hurricanes avg 137 ypg (3.8) rushing per year. 2010 was his 1st yr in the NFL as a position coach with ARZ finishing 32nd in rushing with just two 100 yd rushing efforts.
Receivers - John McNulty, 3rd year
McNulty spent his first 5 years (‘98-’02) as an NFL coach with JAX before becoming the Cowboys WR coach in 2003. He worked as the Rutgers WR coach in 2004 then took over the OC/QB coach role for 2005-‘07. McNulty became the ARZ WR coach in 2009 and the Cardinals thirteen 100 yd receiving efforts are 10th over the L/2Y.
Tight Ends - Freddie Kitchens, 5th year
After 6 years as a RB/TE coach in college, Kitchens was the Cowboys TE coach for 2006. In 2007 he joined ARZ in the same role and the top TE has avg’d 15.3 rec’s (10.3 ypc) each year with a total of 5 TD’s for the Cardinals.
Defensive Coordinator - Ray Horton, 1st year
Horton was a 2nd RD DC by CIN in 1983. He played CB for CIN (1983-88) and DAL (1989-92). After joining PIT as an asst DB coach in 2004, he was promoted to full time DB coach in 2007. PIT had the #3, #1, #16 and #12 pass defenses in his tenure with a combined 71-64 ratio as well.
Defensive Line - Ron Aiken, 5th year
Aiken was the Iowa DL coach from 1999-2006 before joining the Cardinals in 2007. Since taking over the position ARZ has finished 9th, 16th, 17th and 30th all’g an avg of 117 ypg rush (4.2).
Linebackers - Matt Raich, 5th year
Raich was an offensive asst for Whisenhunt from 2004-’06 with PIT. In 2007 he joined ARZ and worked as a defensive asst specifically with the LB’s. In 2009, Raich was promoted to LB coach and in 2010 the LB’s had 21 of the team’s 33 sacks (64%).
Defensive Backs - Louie Cioffi, 1st year
Cioffi got his 1st asst coaching job with the Jets in 1993 at age 20. He joined the Bengals in 1997 as an asst coach earning the asst DB coach title in 2003. His specialty is working with safeties and from 2003-’10 CIN logged 4 finishes in the upper half of the pass D rankings.
Special Teams Coach - Kevin Spencer, 5th year
Spencer was the Colts STC from 1998-2001. From 2002-’06 he ran PIT’s ST’s with a #6 ranking in 2003 being his best finish in 2003. Spencer took over ARZ’s ST’s in 2007 and after coming in 32nd and 31st in our rankings he greatly improved them with 3rd and 4th place finishes for 2009 and 2010 respectively.
