Head Coach - Pat Shurmur, 1st year
Shurmur started out as the Eagles TE coach from 1999-‘01. He was then elevated to QB coach for the 2002-08 seasons with PHI finishing 10th or better in passing from 2004-‘08. Shurmur then became the STL OC for the 2009-‘10 seasons finishing with the 29th and 26th rated offenses. In his 12 years in the NFL his teams have made the playoffs 7 times.
Quarterbacks - Mark Whipple, 1st year
Whipple spent 24 yrs as a collegiate coach including winning the 1998 1-AA Title as HC at UMass. His first NFL coaching job was as the Steelers QB coach from 2004-‘06 and he is credited with developing Ben Roethlisberger. He was an offensive ass’t with Shurmur in 2007-08 at PHI afterwards. For 2009-‘10 he was the OC at Miami (Fl) in which they became the 8th team in school history to earn 5,000 yds offense in 2009.
Running Backs - Gary Brown, 3rd year
Brown was an NFL RB for 8 yrs with HOU, SD and NYG rushing for 4,300 yds (4.2) in his career with two 1,000 yd seasons. He was the RB coach for Rutgers in 2008 prior to joining the Browns. CLE has logged 10 gms of 100 yds rushing by a player with the tm finishing 8th and 20th in total rushing in his tenure.
Wide Receivers - Mike Wilson, 1st year
Wilson was a 9th RD DC in the 1981 draft who had 159 rec’s (13.8) and 15 TD’s in his 10 year career. He was the Cardinals TE coach in 2004 before being moved to their WR coach in 2005-06 where they had twenty-one 100 yd receiving efforts. Wilson spent the 2009-‘10 seasons with Las Vegas as their WR coach helping them win the UFL titles each year.
Offensive Line - George Warhop, 3rd year
Warhop has been an NFL OL coach since 1996 with STL (1996-97), ARZ (1998-2002), DAL (2003-‘04) and SF (2005- ‘08). He joined CLE in 2009 with the Browns allowing 93 sacks or 1 every 10.9 pass attempts since then.
Defensive Coordinator - Dick Jauron, 1st year
Jauron has been an NFL coach since 1985 specializing in DB’s. He has 9 years experience as a HC with another 9 as DC. While highly regarded as a DC, the highest his units have placed in yds allowed is 14th (2003 and 2008). In terms of points his defenses finished 1st in 2001 and 10th in 2006 but he has 7 finishes of 20th or lower. In 2010 he was a DB coach and senior assistant for PHI.
Defensive Line - Dwaine Board, 1st year
Board was a 5th RD DC by PIT in 1979. He retired after 10 yrs as a DE with 45 sks including 3 straight yrs of 10 or more sks with SF from ‘83-‘85. He has been a DL coach since 1994 with SF (1994-‘02), SEA (‘03-‘08) and OAK (‘09). SEA finished 10th or better in 5 of his 6Y with SEA and OAK was 11th in 2009.
Linebackers - Bill Davis, 1st year
Davis is a career LB coach who was with CLE as a defensive QC coach in 1999. After working for GB/ATL/NYG he was the 49ers DC in 2005-‘06 finishing 32nd and 26th in total defense. He was the ARZ LB coach for 2007-‘08 before being promoted to DC for 2009-‘10 with finishes of 20th and 29th in total def.
Defensive Backs - Jerome Henderson, 3rd year
Henderson was an 8th RD DC by NE in 1991 who played for NE, BUF, PHI and the Jets over 8 yrs with appearances in 98 games. He entered the NFL with the Jets in ‘06 in a front office role before working wit the DB’s for 2007-‘08. Henderson joined CLE in ‘09 with the Browns finishing 29th and 18th in pass defense. They improved from 10 int’s in 2009 to 19 in 2010.
Special Teams - Chris Tabor, 1st year
Tabor was the Bears ass’t ST’s coach from 2008-‘10 helping them finish with 3 straight Top 10 finishes in our rankings. Prior to that he spent 2006-‘07 as the RB/ST coach at W Mich.
