Head Coach - Leslie Frazier, 1st year HC, 5th overall
Frazier was the Colts DB coach in 2005-06 with the #15 and #2 pass defenses. He assumed the DC duties for MIN in 2007 and the team improved from 20th to 6th in 2008 and 2009. The defense slid to 8th in 2010 and Frazier was the interim HC for the final 6 games of 2010.
Offensive Coordinator - Bill Musgrave, 1st year
Musgrave was drafted in the 4th RD in 1991 by DAL and played 6 years with SF and DEN. He has been an NFL QB coach for 7 years and OC for 3. He was Matt Ryan’s QB coach from 2006-10 before joining the Vikings.
QB Coach - Craig Johnson, 1st year
Johnson joined the Titans as an offensive ass’t for the 2000-01 seasons and was promoted in 2002 to QB’s coach. At TEN he helped Steve McNair win the 2003 NFL Co-MVP award, Vince Young win the 2006 ROY award and his unit received 5 Pro Bowl invitations. He moved to RB coach for the 2009-10 seasons with Chris Johnson reaching 2,000 yds rushing in 2009.
RB Coach - James Saxon, 1st year
Saxson was a 6th RD DC of the Chiefs in 1988 and played in the league for 8 years rushing for a total of 533 yds (3.7). He was the MIA RB coach from 2008-10 where they had 10 100 yd rushing efforts (17). He has had 6 1,000 yd seasons by a RB in his 10 years as an NFL RB coach.
WR Coach - George Stewart, 5th year
Stewart has been an NFL coach for 23 years working in PIT, TB, SF and ATL. He joined the Vikings in 2007 and developed Percy Harvin into the NFL’s 2009 Offensive ROY. MIN has logged 14 100 yd receiving efforts (23rd) under Stewart and MIN was the 2nd team ever to have 6 players with 40 or more rec’s in a season.
OL Coach - Jeff Davidson, 1st year
Davidson was drafted in the 5th RD of the 1990 draft as an OG and played for 5 years with DEN/NO. He was an offensive ass’t for NO in 1995-96 before working with OL/TE in NE from 1997-04. Davidson was the Browns OL coach in 2005-06 before taking the OC job in CAR from 2007-10. CAR finished 29th, 10th, 19th and 32nd in total offense in his tenure but 3rd in rushing for the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
Defensive Coordinator - Fred Pagac, 1st year DC, 6th overall
Pagac was the Raiders LB coach from 2001-03 before joining the Chiefs in the same role in 2004-05. He served as the Vikings LB coach in 2006-10 and in his 1st season MIN finished atop the NFL’s rush defense rankings for the 1st time since 1994.
DL Coach - Karl Dunbar, 6th year
Dunbar joined MIN in 2006 and for 3 straight years the Vikings led the NFL in rush defense allowing 61.6, 74.1 and 76.9 ypg rushing. MIN finished 2nd in 2009 with 87.1 ypg rushing allowed. MIN finished 8th, 4th and 1st in sacks from 2007-09 as well.
Ass’t HC/Linebackers Coach - Mike Singletary, 1st year
Inducted into the Pro Football HOF in 1998, Singletary’s first full time coaching assignment was for the Ravens in 2003-04. He was the 49ers Ass’t HC/LB coach from 2005-08 before acting as the interim HC for the final 9 games of ‘08. He was SF’s HC from 2009-10 and finished with an 18-22 record.
Secondary Coach - Joe Woods, 6th year
Woods was a defensive ass’t with TB from 2004-05. He has been the secondary coach with MIN since 2006. The Vikings finished 10th in pass defense after 4 years of ranking 18th or lower. Minnesota has given up a combined 51-26 TD/int ratio in 2009-10.
Special Teams Coach - Mike Priefer, 1st year
Priefer was an ass’t STC with JAX in 2002 (6th) before moving onto the Giants in the same role in 2003-05 (31st, 8th 5th). He was KC’s STC from 2006-08 (26th, 27th, 30th) then transferred to DEN for the 2009-10 seasons finishing 22nd and 19th in our rankings. |
