Head Coach - Chan Gailey, 2nd year
Chan Gailey is the 15th HC in Bills history. He has 4 tours (9 years) as an OC with DEN, PIT, MIA and KC. Gailey had an 18-14 record as a HC with the Cowboys from 1998-’99 and a 37-27 record as the HC at Georgia Tech from 2002-’07.
Offensive Coordinator/RB Coach - Curtis Modkins, 2nd year
Modkins was the ARZ RB coach in 2009 and spent his 1st year in the NFL as KC’s RB’s coach in 2008. Prior to that he coached DB’s at GA Tech in 2002 and RB’s from 2003-’07 under Gailey. BUF dipped from 117 ypg (4.4) in rushing to 108 (4.3) in his 1st year here.
Quarterbacks Coach - George Cortez, 2nd year
Cortez has 18 years of experience in the CFL as an OC and QB Coach where he helped win 5 Grey Cup Titles with Calgary as an OC. This is his 2nd year in the NFL as a position coach.
Wide Receivers - Stan Hixon, 2nd year
Hixon was the WAS WR’s coach from 2004-’09 with 23 games of 100 yds receiving logged. In 2010 the Bills had five 100 yd receiving efforts.
Tight Ends - Bob Bicknell, 2nd year
Bicknell was the asst OL, OL and TE coach at different times from 2007-’09 for KC. He had 8 years experience as an OC with NFL Europe from 2000-’05 and as an OL coach in 1998-’99.
Offensive Line - Joe D’Alessandris, 2nd year
D’Alessandris was the KC asst OL coach from 2008-’09. He was GA Tech’s OL coach under Gailey from 2002-’07. BUF gave up 1 sack for every 15.3 att’s in his 1st year vs 1 every 9.6 in 2009.
Defensive Coordinator - George Edwards, 2nd year
Edwards was the MIA LB coach from 2005-’09. He was the CLE LB coach in 2004 and the WAS DC in 2003. Edwards has a total of 14 years of NFL experience and will use a multiple front defense for 2011.
Defensive Line - Giff Smith, 2nd year
This is Smith’s 2nd year as an NFL coach after BUF allowed 170 ypg rushing (4.8) LY. He was GA Tech’s DL coach (‘04-’09) and he has 19 years of college experience.
Inside Linebackers - Dave Wannstedt, 1st year
Wannstedt returns to the NFL after spending the previous 6 seasons in the NCAA ranks as the HC of Pitt. Prior to his stint with the Panthers, Wannstedt saw HC tenures with the Dolphins (2000-2004) and the Bears (1993-1998).
Outside Linebackers - Bob Sanders, 2nd year
Sanders was the GB DC from ‘06-’08 before joining the Bills as a DL coach in’09. He was retained from Dick Jauron’s staff in ‘09.
Secondary Coach - George Catavolos, 5th year
Catavolos was retained following the 2009 season. 2010 was the 1st year in his tenure that BUF allowed over 20 passing TD’s. After allowing a 14-28 TD/int ratio in 2009, BUF gave up a 28-11 ratio in 2010.
Special Teams Coordinator - Bruce DeHaven, 2nd year (14th overall)
This is DeHaven’s 2nd stint with BUF having been the STC from 1987-’99. He was the STC for SEA in 2007 (18th), 2008 (22nd), 2009 (18th), DAL (2003-’06) and SF (2000-’02). BUF finished 24th in our rankings in his 1st year back.
