Head Coach - Marvin Lewis, 8th year
Lewis is the longest tenured coach in Bengals history. In 2009 he was voted AP Coach of the Year becoming the first CIN coach to win since Paul Brown in 1970. He is 4 wins from tying Sam Wyche (64) for most career wins by a CIN HC.
Offensive Coordinator - Jay Gruden, 1st year
Gruden had a successful career in the AFL as a QB/HC. He was an offensive ass’t coach for the Bucs from 2002-08 helping in 3 NFC South titles. In 2009 he was the OC for the UFL Tuskers and in 2010 operated as the HC.
Quarterbacks - Ken Zampese, 8th year
Zampese earned his reputation during the height of the Martz Rams era working in the passing gm from 2000-02. He joined CIN in ‘03 and they finished 5th, 6th and 7th in passing from 2005-07. CIN has logged 18 gms of 300 yds passing in his tenure.
Running Backs - Jim Anderson, 27th year
Anderson has spent his entire NFL career w/CIN since joining the team in 1984. He has worked with 5 different HC’s and has featured 5 different Pro Bowl RB/FB’s. Since 2000 the Bengals have logged 50 gms with a 100 yd rusher which is 15th in the NFL.
Wide Receivers - James Urban, 1st year
From 2004-06 Urban was the ass’t to the HC at PHI before spending the 2007-08 ssns as the off QC coach. Urban was promoted to QB coach for 2009-10 w/PHI finishing 9th and 10th in pass off respectively. He is being brought in to accelerate the WCO.
Asst Head Coach/Off Line - Paul Alexander, 17th year
Alexander has been w/CIN since ‘94 working with the OL. He was promoted to ass’t HC in 2003. CIN has averaged 37 sks all’d per yr in his term or 1 every 14.6 pass attempts.
Defensive Coordinator - Mike Zimmer, 4th year
Zimmer is a DB coach by trade and has been an NFL DC since 2000 with DAL (2000-06), ATL (2007) and CIN (2008-present). His units have finished in the Top 10 in yardage four times with two Top 10 finishes in points.
Defensive Line - Jay Hayes, 8th year
Hayes was the Steelers’ special teams coach from 1999-2001 before serving as the Vikings’ STC in 2002. He joined the Bengals in 2003 and since then the team has averaged 29 sacks per year allowing an avg of 14 rushing TD’s per year.
Linebackers- Jeff FitzGerald, 4th year
FitzGerald is a career LB coach with 18 years NFL experience. He was the Ravens LB coach from 2004-07 and in 2006 became just the 2nd LB coach in the NFL to send 4 players to the Pro Bowl. CIN has allowed 111 ypg (4.1) rushing in his time with the team.
Defensive Backs - Kevin Coyle, 11th year
Coyle was the CB coach for CIN in 2001-02 before taking over as the DB coach in 2003. Since then CIN has only finished with a Top 10 pass defense once (2006) with 4 rankings of 24th or lower. CIN has allowed a comb 182-150 TD/Int ratio in that span.
Special Teams Coach - Darrin Simmons, 8th year
Simmons entered the NFL as an ass’t STC/strength and conditioning coach for BAL in 1998. He then joined CAR in the same roles from 1999-2002. He became CIN’s STC in 2003 earning his best ranking in our special teams in 2004 (13th). CIN has finished 27th or lower in our rankings 3 of the L/4 years.
