COACHING STAFF
OTHER INFORMATION

Head Coach - Gary Kubiak, 6th season
Kubiak was a backup QB for DEN from 1983-’91 with 119 career gms. After serving as Steve Young’s QB coach in 1994, he became DEN’s OC. From 1995-2005 the Broncos ended the year ranked 7th or better in total offense. In 2006 he became HOU’s 2nd HC leading them to their 1st winning season in 2009 with 3 straight finishes of 4th or better on offense.
Offensive Coordinator - Rick Dennison, 2nd year
Dennison was a DEN LB from ‘82-’90 with 52 starts in 128 games. He worked on the DEN coaching staff from 1995-2009 as a STC/OL coach/OC at various times. In 2010 he became the HOU OC as they set a franchise record for pts (390) and yds (6,186).
QB Coach - Greg Knapp, 2nd season
After working as an offensive QC for SF from 1995-’97, Knapp was promoted to QB coach for the 1998-2000 seasons. He has 9 years of experience as an OC with SF (2001-’03), ATL (2004-’06), OAK (2007-’08) and SEA (2009) with 5 top 12 rankings.
RB Coach - Chick Harris, 10th season
Harris has been with HOU since their inception as the RB coach. HOU has had 4 ssns w/a 1,000 yd rusher in his tenure. 2010 was the best ever rushing ssn for the franchise. HOU had eight 100 yd rushing efforts which were equal to the amount over 2007-2009 combined finishing 7th overall in the NFL in yds and 3rd in ypc.
WR Coach - Larry Kirksey, 5th year
Kirksey has 12 years experience in the NFL as a WR’s coach. Since Kirksey joined the Texans in 2007 they have logged thirty 100 yd receiving efforts (6th), Andre Johnson has had 3 straight 1,200+ yd seasons and the Texans have had 3 players with 600+ yds receiving in 3 of his 4 years.
OL Coach - John Benton, 6th year
Prior to the Texans, Benton worked with the Rams OL from 2004-’05. In his 1st year HOU gave up 43 sacks but improved to 22 in 2007. Since 2007 the Texans have averaged 28 sacks allowed (1 every 20.3 pass att’s).
Defensive Coordinator - Wade Phillips, 1st year
Phillips is the 3rd DC in Kubiak’s 6 years here but the first with prior experience. Phillips has been a DC/OC in the NFL for 29 of 35 years. Kubiak was a backup QB at DEN from 1989-’91 when Phillips was the DC. The former DAL HC’s defenses finished 9th or better in total yards from 2007-’09.
DL Coach/Asst HC - Bill Kollar, 3rd year
Kollar has been an NFL DL coach s/1990 working for ATL, STL and BUF before joining HOU in ‘09. HOU improved from the #23 rush def in 2008 to tying for 10th in his 1st yr but dipped to 13th in 2010. 23 of the Texans’ 30 sacks (77%) came from DL in 2010.
LB Coach - Reggie Herring, 1st year
Herring served as the HOU LB coach from 2002-’03. He then worked as the DC for NCSt in 2004 then moved to Ark for the same role from 2005-’07. Herring was the DAL LB coach from 2008-’10 with the DAL LB’s tallying 23.5 of the tms 36 sks.
DB Coach - Vance Joseph, 1st year
Joseph was an UFA who played 17 games in 2 yrs with the Jets and Colts. After 6 yrs as a collegiate DB coach, he joined SF as their DB coach from 2005-’10. SF finished 20th or worse in each year in pass defense giving up 51 more passing TD’s vs int’s.
Special Teams Coordinator - Joe Marciano, 10th year
Marciano has been an STC in the NFL since 1986 with NO, TB and HOU. 2010’s ranking of 27th was HOU’s lowest with Marciano since 2004’s #29 finish. From 2005-’07 his units finished 3rd, 3rd, and 2nd in our rankings respectively.
