Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator - Bill Belichick, 12th year
Belichick is the only person to have served 20 years as an assistant coach and at least 15 years as a HC in the NFL. He has also led NE to 4 AFC titles, 8 division crowns and 14 playoff victories. His 121-39 (75.6%) run from 2001-‘10 in the reg season is the best for any American pro sports team in that span.
QB Coach/Offensive Coordinator - Bill O’Brien, 5th year
O’Brien joined NE as a coaching asst in 2007 and was named the WR coach in 2008. He was then promoted to QB coach in 2009 and after calling the offensive plays in 2009-‘10, was formally tabbed as the OC on 2/11/11.
RB Coach - Ivan Fears, 13th year
Fears coached the NE WR’s in 1991-‘92 and from 1999-2001. He was the Bears WR coach from 1993-‘98 before coming back to NE. In 2003 Fears was named the RB’s coach and NE has had twenty-five 100 yd rushing performances in his tenure.
WR Coach - Chad O’Shea, 3rd year
Before joining NE as a WR coach, O’Shea was an offensive asst/WR asst from 2006-‘08 at MIN. He worked with KC’s special teams/LB’s from 2003-‘05. NE had seven 100 yd receiving efforts in 2010 and 12 in 2009.
Asst HC/OL Coach - Dante Scarnecchia, 21st year
Scarnecchia has spent all but 2 years in the NFL with the Patriots. He has worked for 6 different HC’s and has been a member of all 6 of NE’s Super Bowls. He has coached NE’s OL for the L12Y giving up an avg of 34 sacks per year or 1 for every 16 pass attempts.
DL Coach - Pepper Johnson, 11th year
Johnson was NE’s LB coach from 2001-‘03. He was then named the DL coach in 2004 and since then NE has allowed 122 ypg (4.1) rushing. Johnson handles most of the defense’s day-to-day responsibilities.
Linebackers Coach - Patrick Graham, 1st year
After spending 2007-‘08 as a graduate assistant for Notre Dame working with the defense, Graham worked as a coaching assistant for NE in 2009-‘10. This is his 1st year as a position coach at any level but 3rd yr with the Pats.
Safeties Coach - Matt Patricia, 8th year
Patricia spent his first 3 years with NE as an OL asst. He was promoted to LB’s coach in 2006 and spent 5 years with that unit helping Jerod Mayo win the 2009 Defensive ROY Award. This is his 1st year as the safeties coach.
Defensive Backs Coach - Josh Boyer, 6th year
Boyer was a coaching asst from 2006-‘08 before being named the DB coach in 2009. NE has finished 12th and 30th in pass defense the L2Y but went from 18 to 25 int’s.
Special Teams Coach - Scott O’Brien, 3rd year
Prior to joining NE in 2009, O’Brien was DEN’s STC for 2007-‘08 after being CAR’s STC from 1999-2004. He worked for Nick Saban in MIA from 2005-‘06 as an asst to the HC.
