Head Coach - Rex Ryan, 3rd year
Ryan is the first Jets HC to lead his tm to the Championship RD in his 1st 2 yrs. He spent 10 yrs as a def assistant at BAL (DC from 2005-‘08) during which time his D never ranked lower than 6th. With Ryan as a HC/DC they have all’d 19 or fewer ppg in 5 out of 6 yrs.
Offensive Coordinator - Brian Schottenheimer, 6th year
Schottenheimer was named the Jets OC in 2006 after being the Chargers QB coach from ‘02-‘05. In his 1st year he helped Chad Pennington with the Comeback POY Award with 3,352 yds. In 2008 the NYJ offense scored 42 TD’s helping break the 400 pt barrier for the 3rd time ever in franchise history.
QB Coach - Matt Cavanaugh, 3rd year
Cavanaugh was the University of Pittsburgh’s OC from 2005-‘08. He was BAL’s OC from 1999-’04 with a win in Super Bowl XXXV. Sanchez has two 300 yd passing efforts in his first 2 reg seasons but a 9-3 ratio in the postseason under Cavanaugh’s tutelage.
RB Coach - Anthony Lynn, 3rd year
Lynn has been the RB coach for CLE (‘07-‘08), DAL (‘05-‘06) and JAX (2003-‘04). In ‘09 he joined the Jets as their RB coach and they have avg’d 160 ypg (4.5) with eight 100 yd rushing efforts by the RB’s.
WR Coach - Henry Ellard, 3rd year
After being an offensive asst from 2001-‘02 with STL, Ellard then served as their WR’s coach from 2003-‘08. STL had forty six 100 yd receiving efforts (4th) in his tenure w/NY having 6 the L2Y.
Asst HC/OL Coach - Bill Callahan, 4th year
Callahan is regarded as one of the best OL coaches in the NFL. He was Nebraska’s HC from ‘04-‘07 with a 27-22 record. Callahan was OAK’s HC from ‘02-‘03 after being their OC from ‘98-‘01. The Jets have all’d 88 sks in the L3Y or 1 for every 16 pass attempts.
Defensive Coordinator - Mike Pettine, 3rd year
Pettine has worked for Rex Ryan at every stop along the way in the NFL. He was a defensive asst in BAL from 2002-‘03, DL coach in 2004 before coaching the LB’s from 2005-‘08. As a rookie DC, Pettine’s defense led the NFL in total defense, pass defense and points allowed on defense. The Jets finished 3rd, 6th and 6th respectively LY.
DL Coach - Mark Carrier, 2nd year
Carrier worked with the BAL secondary from 2006-‘09 as an assistant. He was the DB coach for Arizona St from 2004-‘05.
Sr Def Asst/LB Coach - Bob Sutton, 12th year
Sutton was the Jets LB coach from 2000-‘06 when he was promoted to DC from 2006-08. Ryan opted to retain him as his LB’s coach in 2009 with the Jets tallying 32 and 40 sacks the L2Y.
Defensive Backs Coach - Dennis Thurman, 3rd year
Thurman worked with the BAL secondary from 2002-‘07 under Rex Ryan. He was out of football in 2008 before joining the Jets in 2009. In 2009 NYJ allowed 5.4 ypa with an 8-17 ratio followed by a 6.5 ypa with a 24-12 ratio in 2010.
Special Teams Coach - Mike Westhoff, 11th year
Westhoff was MIA’s ST’s coach from 1986-‘00 before joining the Jets in 2001. Since he took over the Jets have had 14 KR TD’s and have finished in the Top 10 of our ST rankings 3x’s.
